Costa Rica Bed and Breakfasts National Network

2003-2004 Directory

There are now hundreds of Bed and Breakfasts in Costa Rica! We are list only B & Bs which have been established for a number of years, ones which visitors have enjoyed and return to year after year.

The popularity of Country Inns and B & Bs have grown, as visitors discover that they offer a superb alternative to large hotels. You learn more about the country, meet locals, expats married to locals, or expats living in Costa Rica as permanent residents. Your money stays in the country, and you really get to experience much more of Costa Rica! It's the smart choice...Personable reservations expert Pat Bliss is a long-time resident, former bed and breakfast owner, and knows these small lodges and hotels well.

Personalized service is our bottom line!

The following B & Bs are listed alphabetically and by location. There are several areas of Costa Rica that are popular tourist spots, and B & Bs do not exist as yet, so we will recommend the most popular country inns in that area. All B & Bs and Inns are small and cozy, owner-run, English-speaking, and (of course) nearly all serve breakfast.

Rates listed are high season rates. Rates are lower during the "green season" (April 15-Nov.15).

The board members of the Established Bed and Breakfast Group, all have lived in Costa Rica for a number of years and have traveled constantly to visit B & Bs in Costa Rica. As the B & Bs continue to grow, we have delegates in each area of Costa Rica for you to meet and keep us in touch with changes. Of course, we depend on you, the visitors, for feedback We value your opinions:

Up to now if anyone wanted something more than basic clean and comfortable budget accommodations with hot water they had to look to the all-inclusive lodges in the area. Casa Marbella is located in the center of Tortuguero village in front of the Catholic Church and beside the Information Center. Its four small, tastefully appointed rooms have high ceilings with fans and lots of natural light. It is right on the river and the National park which is only one minute away by boat can be seen from the dock. The garden has a number of native trees and plants including beautiful orchids and bromeliads. There is walking access to the beach, National Park trails, the natural history museum of the Caribbean Conservation Corporation and of course the charming restaurants and shops of the village. They are installing a solar hot water system and will offer fax and internet access as soon as the private phone lines are hooked up in the village in late 2001 (when the National Telecommunications Company completes the last remaining stage of the project). Now you can enjoy a little luxury and freedom to explore in and around the village and not have to conform to a package hotel‰s meals, tours and brief visit to the charming village. When the new common-room and dock are completed the rooms will be $48 for a double and $30 for a single including a full breakfast. Inquire for current prices.
